What is 4116 steel ?
Steel 1.4116 has a martensitic microstructure and is a stainless steel. Steel 1.4116, also known as X50CrMoV steel, is a type of steel produced by the German manufacturer ThyssenKrupp.
While 1.4116 steel is primarily renowned for its ability to resist corrosion and wear, it is also remarkable for its ease of sharpening and moderate edge retention.
Steel 1.4116 is designated as X50CrMoV15 by DIN standards and the naming system.
The ‘X’ represents the stainless steel alloy, the ‘50’ refers to 0.5% carbon, the ‘CrMoV’ corresponds to the chemical formula of chromium, molybdenum and vanadium, and finally the ‘15’ is the percentage of chromium. Its performance is comparable to that of AUS-8 steel, but its corrosion resistance is slightly higher.
